Universal Video Controller makes it easy to control video playback speed and volume on supported websites. It processes the information needed for these features locally on your device. We do not collect or transmit your browsing history, page content, or audio to external servers.
1. Information handled
- Video and page context: The extension detects HTML5 video elements, their visibility, playback state, and frame location so it can select and control the relevant video. This information is processed locally and is not uploaded.
- Per-tab settings: The enabled state, playback speed, volume, and custom limits are stored locally in Chrome session storage. Settings are kept separate for each tab and are not used to build website profiles or browsing history.
- Saved presets: Speed and volume values saved by the user are stored locally in Chrome storage. Up to three presets can be saved, and presets are independent of websites.
- Tab audio: When the user selects a volume above 100%, the extension temporarily captures audio from the current tab and processes it locally with the Web Audio API. The default volume range is 0–200%; users can set custom limits up to 1000%. The audio is not recorded, stored, or sent to external servers.
2. How the information is used
The information described above is used only to control video playback speed and volume, apply sliders, numeric values, and presets, detect videos in iframes and open Shadow DOM trees, restore controls after navigation or a service worker restart, and provide optional local tab-audio boosting.
3. External transmission and sharing
Universal Video Controller does not send audio, page content, browsing history, URLs, settings, or preset values to developer-controlled servers, advertising networks, analytics services, or other third parties. We do not sell or share user data, and there is no feature that allows a person to view user data.
4. Storage and deletion
Per-tab settings are stored in Chrome session storage and are removed when Chrome or the extension discards the session data. Saved presets remain in Chrome's local extension storage until the user deletes them or removes the extension. The extension does not store page content, browsing history, or audio recordings.
